SUBJECT Richard Matthews is mortgaging property in Brinkworth, Wiltshire to Theophilus for £450. It consists of: 1. 4 acres of pasture on the South side of the turnpike road from Brinkworth to Swindon, with a dwelling house and 2 cottages. 2. 3 acres of pasture at Callow Hill with 3 messuages. 3. A piece of pasture of 2 roods at Brinkworth Common. We are told that Richard Matthews has already borrowed £250 in 1864 and 1866 on the security of the property (2) and (3) above. Then, on 25 May 1867, he bought the property (1) above and is using all three pieces as security for the new loan.
