Charles CHALK of Brighton, Sussex. Gentleman.

SUBJECT
The document begins by reciting an Indenture of April 1853 in which Thomas Barber mortgaged property in Poynings to James Ball for £100.

The mortgage is still owing but Thomas Barber has put the property up for public auction at the New Inn, Hurstpierpoint, where it was sold to Samuel Gumbrell for £270. This conveyance is to complete the sale, with £100 being paid direct to James Bull to discharge the mortgage.

The property consists of 4 freehold messuages in Poynings, Sussex.

Note that Charles Clark appears to act only as some sort of Trustee and plays very little real part.
