PARTIES
Joseph Sparrow of the parish of Redmarley d'Abitot, Worcestershire. (Sawyer) William Hodges formerly of Staunton, Worcestershire, but now of Snigsend, Parish of Corse, Gloucestershire. (Sawyer) George Little of Newent, Gloucestershire. (Cooper) SUBJECT The document begins by reciting that in 1593 a lease of 3000 years was granted on property in Redmarley d'Abitot at a yearly rent of 2 shillings. At some time since a cottage forming part of this property came into the hands of William Sparrow (father of Joseph Sparrow, party hereto). We are next told that by 1808 William Sparrow had mortgaged the cottage for £20, a sum which he could not repay. Accordingly, he assigned the cottage to his son Joseph in return for the latter agreeing to pay off the mortgage and to support his parents (William and his wife Ann), during the remainder of their lives. Finally, in this document, we are told that William and Ann died upwards of 25 years ago and the mortgage has long since been repaid, Joseph Sparrow is now selling the cottage, including a close of land of a quarter acre called Blackhall, to George Little for £40. William Hodges only appears to be acting as a Trustee in the process. | |||||||||||
