Parchment : 1 sheet 58cm x 69cm with wax seal and revenue stamp. Note that this appears to be a 'standard' manuscript contract which has mostly been written by one person, but with blanks and the property description filled in by another.

PARTIES John Dobson of Newton Moor by Hyde, Cheshire, Mechanic. Robert Bell of Hyde, Cheshire, Draper. James Thornley of Godley by Hyde, Cheshire, Cotton Manufacturer. William Smith of Hyde, Cheshire, Gas Manager. (NB the last three are Trustees of the Hyde and District Permanent Benefit Society) SUBJECT John Dobson is borrowing £456/1/10d from the Hyde and District Building Society on a mortgage on property in Newton, Cheshire. The plot contains 766 square yards and is bounded on the North side by the highway from Flowery Field to Newton and on the West by Duke (?) Street. A memorandum written on the back records that the loan was paid of in 1885.
