PARTIES
The Rev Fielding Arthur Wolfe Hamilton GELL of Matlock, Derbyshire. John Gilbert CROMPTON of Matlock, Derbyshire. Esquire. James POTTER of Matlock, Derbyshire. Gentleman. Walter Herbert WRIGHT of Matlock Bridge, Derbyshire. Dental Surgeon. George POYSER of 55 Holland Road, Chorlton cum Hardy, Lancashire. Gentleman. SUBJECT Note that the Rev Gell and John Crompton are Lords of the Manor of Matlock and James Potter is Steward of the Manor. Walter Wright is mortgaging copyhold property in Matlock to George Poyser for £600. The mortgage requires two documents. First is the Deed of Covenant in which Walter Wright acknowledges receipt of the money and covenants to surrender the property to the Lords of the Manor of Matlock. The second is a record of the Small Court Baron of the Manor which details the actual surrender and subsequent admission of George Poyser. The property consists of 2 dwelling houses known as 'Lyndhurst' and 'Greenholme' on a plot of 720 square yards, bounded on the East by Dale Road and on the West by Holt Lane. Note that George Poyser actually sold the property to Walter Wright for £1200 on the same date. The mortgage represents the fact that half the purchase price was borrowed from George Poyser. See Doc Ref. 0504035 for the sale itself. (Our photograph shows 3 documents, but only the two on the right are included in this lot. The third one is now part of 0504035.) | |||||||||||
