Individual Note (shared)

1. There is an IGI entry for Alice, daughter of Reuben and Frances Baker, born in Great Bookham in 1842. Note that she was christened on (almost) the same day as William Arthur. Were they twins, or had one been missed out ?

2. The 1851 census says that Alice was aged 11 and born in Godstone. Maybe she really was a bit older than William Arthur, but was not christened in Godstone because the family were in the process of moving. Are the two Alices really the same person ? The only serious doubt arises from the doubts about Rhuben's wife. Did he marry twice, with the second wife being an Alice from Godstone ? If so, then this second wife may herself have had a child from an earlier marriage.

3. The IGI lists the marriage of two possible Alice Bakers.

i. To John William Heath in 1860 (this one is also in FREEBMD). They appear in the 1881 census where Alice is aged 39 and born in Horsham.

ii. The other is to John Free Lee in 1861. Can't pin them down in the 1881 census.

4. Have tried searching the 1881 census for all possible Alice *, who were born in Surrey and living in Sussex. The only one of interest is an Alice Stringer, married to Sidney Stringer, living in Brighton and who was born in Catsfield, Surrey in 1843. The only problem is that there isn't anywhere obvious called Catsfield in Surrey ! I can't see anywhere of that name on the map either near Great Bookham or near Godstone.
