Note on Wife: Emily Alice FISHER - shared note

1. Her birth certificate says that she was born at 48 Helmet Row, in the Holborn registration district. Her father's profession is given as Printer compositor.

2. Her marriage certificate gives her address as 49, Rosenthal Road, Catford, where she is a domestic servant. (Her employers are reputed to have been a well-known name among piano manufacturers). Her father is Sam Fisher (deceased), a bricklayer's labourer.

3. Emily had 3 half-sisters Mary, Rose and Frances, these being born from the second marriage of Emily Bailey to James Whitaker. Emily started work in service aged about 14. At about this time the younger children went to Dr Barnado's orphanage in Shoreditch, presumably when their mother died. It is said that neither Emily nor Mary were ever willing to talk about their childhood.
