|PARTIES to the main Indenture:
Samuel BRUCE of Wakefield, Yorkshire. (Barrister)
Francis CARDWELL of Wakefield, Yorkshire. (Druggist)
John KAYE of Clayton West, Yorkshire. (Esquire JP)
Elizabeth LAWTON (deceased) of Wakefield, Yorkshire. (Spinster)
ADDITIONAL PARTY to the Indenture of 27 February 1883
William WAILES of Emley Woodhouse, Yorkshire. (Twine Manufacturer)
The document begins by reciting that Elizabeth Lawton died in 1861 having appointed Samuel Bruce, Francis Cardwell and her brother William Graves Lawton, as her Executors and Trustees. Her property was to be held by the Trustees during the life of her brother Edwin Lawton, and was to be sold after his death. William Graves Lawton died in 1879 and Edwin Lawton died in 1881.
Samuel Bruce and Francis Cardwell are now selling property in Clayton West to John Kaye for £150. It consists of a plot of land called The Common Close totalling 1 acre 2 roods, laying on the South side of the road from Denby in Clayton West.
In the second Indenture we are told that Samuel Bruce and Francis Caldwell have sold other property in Clayton West to William Wailes (presumably another sale arising from the Will of Elizabeth Lawton). As a result, William Wailes covenants to make documents relating to this second sale available to John Kaye when required.
