|Summary of contents:|
Mary Ann TANNER of Tenterden, Kent. Spinster.
Henry GOWER of Tenterden, Kent. Tallow Chandler.
The document begins by reciting the Will of John Tanner of Tenterden (father of Mary Ann Tanner) which says that he owned four messuages at West Cross in the Parish of Tenterden. He lived in one of these himself and Henry Gower lived in another.
His Will left his property to his daughter, Elizabeth Gower (presumably the wife of Henry Gower) and her children, or if none were surviving, then to his daughter Mary Tanner.
Somehow it appears that Elizabeth Gower was later excluded from the Will and the property has come into the hands of Mary Tanner, However, she believes that her father had intended to alter his Will so as to give Henry Gower a life interest in the four houses at West Cross. In this document Mary Tanner is making a grant of a life interest of the property to Henry Gower as her father wished.
