|Summary of contents:|
William Edward GRAY of Exeter, Devon. Gentleman.
Rowland Samuel PURNELL of 41 Powderham Crescent, Exeter, Devon. Coal Merchant.
Nicholas ADDEMS of Coombe Farm, Parish of Christow, Devon. Farmer.
The document begins by reciting an Indenture of 1887 in which 5 parcels of land in the Parish of Christow, Devon, were mortgaged for £1000. By 1898 this mortgage was in the hands of Walter Prettyjohn who died in 1907 having appointed William Gray and Rowland Purnell as his executors.
Default has evently been made on the mortgage and the two executors are selling the property to Nicholas Addems for £202/10/-d.
The property totals 5 acres and forms part of a farm commonly known as Rood or Reed. These are clearly marked on the map on the back, which also marks many other parcels belonging to Mr N Addems. Note that there is also mention of an Indenture of 1840 involving several members of the Addems family.
