|Summary of contents:|
Edward ROBERTS of Braunton, Devon, Independent Minister.
Marianne Windeatt BOOKER of Bideford, Devon. Spinster.
James BOOKER of Bideford, Devon, Gentleman.
Samuel Lavington BOOKER of Bideford, Devon. Gentleman.
Edgcombe PARSON of Coates, Gloucestershire. Gentleman.
This is a settlement made in anticipation of the intended marriage of Marianne Booker and Edward Roberts. It deals with financial assets owned by Marianne Booker and places them in the hands of James Booker, Samuel Booker and Edgcombe Parson as Trustees. (This is a standard legal device used at the time to keep the wife's assets out of the hands of her husband).
Note that one part of Marianne Windeatt Booker's assets appear to have come from Caleb Angus Windeatt and are a charge on property in the parish of Northam Devon.
The trustees are to pay the income of the trust funds to Marianne Booker for her own separate use during her lifetime and after that to her children or as directed by her will. Her husband hardly gets a mention!
In the Indenture of 1892 added on the back, we are told that James Booker has since died and that Edward Roberts is now being appointed as a third trustee in his place.
