Henry CUTHBERT of Diss, Norfolk. Merchant.
John KENT (deceased) of Diss, Norfolk. Farmer.
Mary CUTTING of Diss, Norfolk, the wife of the Rev Thomas Cutting.
The document is entitled "Abstract of Title of Mr Henry Cuthbert to a freehold messuage adjoining the Waveney in Diss, formerly Copyhold of the Manor of Diss". It summarises events relating to this property between 1811 and 1877.
In 1811 John Kent bought the property for £260. At that time it was occupied by Rhoda Kent and was described as a "cottage late used as a Baking Office" upon the highway called Freshgate and next to the Methodist Chapel.
John Kent died in 1843 leaving it to three trustees (including his son John Kent) for the benefit of his daughter Mary, the wife of the Rev Thomas Cutting. In 1856 the surviving executors, at the direction of Mary Cutting, sold it to Henry Cuthbert for £235.
Up until this point the property was held Copyhold from the Manor of Diss. Then in August 1877 it was enfranchised (ie converted into Freehold tenure) for £250. By this time it is described as the "Messuage, Warehouses, Granaries and Lands".
