The document begins by reciting that in 1788 the Earl and Countess of Ilchester granted a lease on the Bear Inn to John Norton. The lease is for 99 years or until the death of John Norton's daughter Ann Frances Norton (then aged 4) if sooner.
The lease has since come into the hands of William Raymond and is is now selling it to John Barnard for £400.
The Bear Inn is on the South side of the market place in Somerton, part of the Manor of Somerton. The rent is 9/11d and it is subject to a heriot of £2.
