Good, consistent with age
Parchment : 1 sheet 57cm x 66cm with 4 wax seals and revenue stamps
Summary of contents:
Thomas Hughes of Stourbridge, Worcestershire. Accounting Clerk
Sarah, his wife, formerly Sarah Davis
Mary Ann Davis of Wordsley, Parish of Kingswinford, Staffordshire. Spinster.
William Wall of Kingswinford, Staffordshire. Carter.
The document begins by reciting an indenture of 1849 in which William Wall mortgaged property in Kingswinford, Staffordshire to Sarah and Mary Davis for £150.
William Wall did not repay the loan on the due date, but is doing so now, and the property is being reconveyed to him.
The property consists of
1. 5 acres of land in Warthill Meadow which is close to the turnpike road from Townsend to Dudley.
2. Another plot of 388 square yards, also in Warthill meadow.
(NB This document has every appearance of being a standard piece of parchment, but is thinner than usual and feels more like paper. However, the revenue stamp has been applied using the standard piece of escutcheoned blue paper. If the material were paper, surely the embossed stamp would have been applied directly? I can only conclude that it must be parchment.)
