The document relates to a mortgage on a plot of 926 square yards on the South side of Wood Street, Darwen. We are told that in October 1888 James Hodkinson acquired a 999 year lease on this property at a rent of £7/14/4d per annum.
In the main indenture of 30/11/1888 James Hodkinson mortgages this property to Mary Ann Fish for £300. Receipts written on the back show that he borrowed a further £150 in 1988/9.
By March 1889, we are told that Mary Ann Fish has died, leaving Esther Anderton, William Fish and William Halliwell as executors. On 21st March these three executors transfer the mortgage to Esther Anderton alone. On 22nd March James Hodkinson repays the whole mortgage and the property is reconveyed to him.
