This is a document of the Customary Court Baron of the Manor of Heptonstall. William Sutcliffe is appearing before the Court to say that John Sutcliffe died in 1818 leaving his property to his son, John Crossley Sutcliffe, who was then a minor. Esther, Susannah and William Sutcliffe, together with John Mitchell, were his executors.
John Mitchell also appears and in his capacity as guardian of John Crossley Sutcliffe is admitted to copyhold property in the Manor. We are told that the property is "within the townships of Heptonstall, Wadsworth or elsewhere within the Parish of Halifax". Some parts are called "Hare Horns", "West Ing At Lee" and "Carr Houses". Fines totalling £27/1/-d are paid to the Lord of the Manor.
