John Clayton is mortgaging land in Birdham, Sussex to Edward Johnson for 78 with the proviso that the sum must be repaid by 27 March next. There is a schedule listing 13 pieces of land including 2 houses and totalling 12 acres.

In the second indenture of 1874, we are told that the sum of 78 is still outstanding, which John Clayton is now paying off, and the property is conveyed back to him
