SUBJECT
The document begins by reciting an indenture of 1851 in which John Millington obtained an 800 year lease on land on the corner of Wilkinson Street and Porter Road (later New Porter Street) Sheffield. Ultimately, the residue of this lease had been bought by Mark Hubie on 26/09/1872, and he us now borrowing 800 from Thomas Cadman and Walter Marsh on the security of this lease.

The second indenture of 1885 tells us that Walter Marsh died in 1884 and that 750 of the earlier mortgage is still outstanding. This balance of the mortgage is now being transferred to the other parties listed (ie Roberts, Leader...Barber). The solicitor's letter of 1895 attached appears to imply that the property of Mark Thomas Hubie has passed to his wife Maria and a number of daughters. The letter is informing the mortgage holders (from the 1885 indenture) that the lease is now being assigned to Charles Barford Hobbis (who appears to be a trustee of the will of Mark Hubie).

NB The houses built on the plot were later known (by 1938) as Nos 33 and 35 Wilkinson Street and 1 Filey Street.
